A new hydrangea from Thompson & Morgan has been named ‘RHS Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year 2018.”
Hydrangea Runaway Bride ‘Snow White’ is a lace cap hydrangea with white flowers tinged with pink. It starts flowering in late spring and continues well into autumn, producing six times more flowers than other hydrangeas.
It is now available for sale, with prices starting at £14.99 for a 10.5cm potted plant.

TOP TIP
Pruning lavender as soon as it finishes flowering will prevent the base of the plant from becoming brown and woody and will help to maintain a firm, rounded shape. The fresh growth that appears after pruning also helps to shield the lavender from frost during the winter.
WHAT TO DO NOW
Buy bulbs as soon as they become available, planting daffodils immediately but storing tulips in a cool, dry place until November.
Summer prune wisteria, cutting back whippy shoots to five or six leaves to promote better flowering next year.
- Collect seeds from annuals including nigella and Californian poppy.
- Cut out old fruited canes on raspberries.
- Take cuttings of osteospermum, pelargonium and other tender perennials.
- Plant out rooted strawberry runners.
- Prune plums immediately after harvest.
- Keep carrots covered with fleece to protect from carrot fly.
- Maintain regular watering to prevents blossom end rot in tomatoes.
- Raise pumpkin and squash onto straw or bricks to prevent the skins from spoiling on the soil.
- Hoe off weeds between vegetables.
- Cut sweet peas regularly to encourage more flowers to form.
- Set earwig traps amongst dahlias.
